GENGHIS KHAN, The founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire. Genghis Khan, whose birth name was Temüjin, was born around 1162 in Mongolia. He was the son of Yesügei, the chieftain of the Borjigin clan, one of the many nomadic tribes in the region. However, his early life was marked by adversity as his father was poisoned, leading to a period of hardship for the young Temüjin and his family. Temüjin's early life was characterized by struggles against rival Mongol clans, and he even faced imprisonment by a rival tribe.
